A CRICKET club will celebrate its 150th anniversary with a family fun day and charity match.

Hetton Lyons Cricket Club will hold the free event on Sunday (Aug 30) starting at noon with a charity T20 match as well as bouncy castle, kiddies rides, slide and face painting.

There will also be tarot cards, craft stalls and tombola with karaoke rounding up the day at 6pm, with proceeds going to Tommy’s Baby Charity.

Although many of the club’s records were destroyed in a fire in 1954, members have trawled the archives of County Hall, Durham to produce a birthday booklet, telling the history of the North East Premier League side.

A display in the foyer also tells the history of the club, which currently has three senior and six junior teams.

Proceeds from the booklet and a Buy A Year Draw will go to the club which currently coaches 100 children from the Hetton area.

Club treasurer Trevor Walker said: “There’s something for everyone, young and old, next Sunday.

“Please come along and join us in celebrating what has been an eventful but prosperous 150 years”.
