THE four MPs hoping to be the next leader of the Labour Party will take part in a debate in the North-East.

Shadow Health Secretary Andy Burnham, Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, shadow health minister Liz Kendall and left-winger Jeremy Corbyn, the surprise frontrunner, will go head-to-head at the Sage Gateshead on Thursday, September 3.

That is one week before voting closes in the leadership election. The winner will then be announced on Saturday, September 12.

The debate will be broadcast live and hosted by Sky News presenter Adam Boulton.

The first half of the 90-minute debate will feature questions from the audience, while during the second questions will be taken from viewers.
