A MAYOR'S charity campaign has been boosted by two North-East football clubs.
Bishop Auckland Mayor Lee Brownson accepted a signed shirt from Sunderland and Darlington football clubs at Thursday’s pre-season friendly at Bishop Auckland FC’s Heritage Park (July 9).
The signed Sunderland shirt will be auctioned off as part of the Mayor's comedy night at Heritage Park, Bishop Auckland FC stadium on Friday, September 18 between 7pm and 11pm.
Cllr Brownson said: "I am extremely grateful to both Sunderland AFC and Darlington FC for their kind generosity in donating the signed shirts which will go towards raising money for my chosen charity of the year - Help for Heroes.”
The national charity, founded by Bryn and Emma Parry in 2007, helps support wounded servicemen and their families by providing financial assistance and a national support network.
Thursday’s game, which featured two goals from Sunderland’s Emanuele Giaccherini, ended in a 4 – 2 win to Sunderland.
Cllr Brownson added: "It was an entertaining match with some cracking goals. I would like to wish both Darlington and Sunderland all the very best for the upcoming season."
Tickets for the Mayor’s comedy night can be bought from Bishop Auckland Town Council on 01388-609852.
