THREE people aged 17, 18 and 22 have been arrested in relation to an accident that saw a bus collide with a house in Sunderland.

The accident happened on Merle Terrace on Tuesday evening.

One person was inside the house in the Pallion area of Sunderland, at the time but he was unhurt.

Northumbria Police said that a small number of passengers were treated for minor injuries by paramedics at the scene as a precaution.

The three are currently in custody helping police with their enquiries.

It is believed that another vehicle - a Renault Clio - may also have been involved, but the occupants left before the arrival of police.

Enquiries are ongoing to trace the car's driver and a passenger - with officers keen for them to get in contact to confirm they don't need medical treatment.
