A WOMAN was sexually assaulted as she walked near a football stadium.
The 41-year-old victim was walking along Leazes Terrace in Newcastle, close to St James' Park, when she was approached by a man who touched her inappropriately.
The incident happened shortly before 7am on Wednesday.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “The woman screamed and the man then ran off from the scene in the direction of St James' Park, past Strawberry Place and towards Barrack Road.”
The man is described as being white, in his early 20s, around 5ft 4ins tall and of slim build.
He was wearing a black beanie hat, a dark waterproof style jacket and dark tracksuit bottoms with two orange stripes down the legs and dark footwear.
Enquiries are ongoing into the incident and anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191 quoting reference number 152 11/03/15.
