SMOKE, war cries and the clash of steel swords filled the air again at 900-year-old North-East castle, for the filming of a major BBC drama starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Dame Judi Dench.
The Hollow Crown: The Wars Of The Roses will conclude the critically-acclaimed series of adaptations of Shakespeare's History plays, which won Baftas in 2012.
Scenes from the drama were filmed at Alnwick Castle, in Northumberland.
The historic home of the Percy family, the castle has already doubled as Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films, and featured in the 1998 Cate Blanchett film Elizabeth and Robin Hood Prince Of Thieves. It is also a backdrop in the ITV smash Downton Abbey.
The crew filmed dramatic fight scenes outside the castle walls, including actors on horseback, clashing swords and smoke from the battle.
But there was no sign for keen onlookers of the man of the moment and Oscar nominee Cumberbatch.
Despite rumours circulating locally, he was not involved in the scenes filmed at the castle.
Others involved in the series include Sophie Okonedo, Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Keeley Hawes, Tom Sturridge, Sir Michael Gambon and Philip Glenister.
