FAITH leaders will gather in the North-East tomorrow (Thursday January 14) for an act of remembrance for the victims of the Paris atrocities.

St Nicholas Cathedral, in Newcastle, has invited people of all faiths to come together to pray for peace following the horrific killings at a magazine office and kosher supermarket in the French capital, last week.

It will include the lighting of candles and the saying of prayers for all those affected by the events in Paris, which shocked the world.

The Dean of Newcastle, the Very Reverend Christopher Dalliston, said: “Newcastle has always been a place of strong communities, trust and mutual respect.

“In these difficult days, when there are those who would seek to divide and fragment our society, it is important that we stand together as people of all faiths, and none, in an expression of our common humanity and yearning for peace.”

The service will begin at 4pm with a welcome from the Dean and Assistant Bishop of Newcastle, the Right Reverend Frank White, who will be leading the prayers.

People from all faiths or of none-at-all are invited to what is expected to be a relatively brief gathering.

It comes in the wake of the mass march through Paris, last Sunday, led by world leaders and families of those killed in the atrocities, in the hope of uniting people of all FAITHS.
