A MAN who died after being found by the side of a road may have been hit by a lorry - the driver of which may not have realised he had been in a collision.

Police are appealing for information after the man died in Northumberland.

"At 11.30pm on Friday, November 7, police received a report of concern for a man on the roadside on the A697 South Road in Wooler, near to the junction with the B6348," said a spokeswoman for Northumbria Police.

"Police and paramedics attended and located the the man, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

"It's thought the man, aged in his 60s, may have been struck by a HGV and that the driver may have not been aware. It's also possible the vehicle was travelling south."

Officers are carrying out enquiries and appealing for anyone who was travelling on the A697 last night between 11pm and 11.30pm, in particular any HGV drivers, to contact them.
