A POWERFUL performance, fusing music and dance with extraordinary stories of war correspondents, will be staged tomorrow (Tuesday, October 14) as part of Sage Gateshead’s First World War centenary events.

War Correspondents, created by critically-acclaimed composer Helen Chadwick and award-winning choreographer Steven Hoggett looks at life-changing experiences of war correspondents covering Iraq, Chechnya, Afghanistan and Bosnia.

From the harrowing to the everyday, War Correspondents explores all aspects of the journalists’ vocation, from being held at gunpoint to the necessity of packing wet wipes along with their flak jacket to the darkly funny story of the journalist who met the sniper who had tried to kill him.

Actual recordings of journalist’s testimonies are used in the show alongside their words transformed into song. The show starts at 8pm.

War Correspondents commissioned by Sage Gateshead, Greenwich and Docklands International Festival and Durham Book Festival is just one of the many commemorative commissions and events taking place.
