POLICE have appealed for witnesses to a three-vehicle road accident in which two men travelling on a motorbike suffered serious injuries.
The rider and pillion passenger, aged 53 and 31 respectively, were reported to be in critical condition at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary following the collision, also involving a van and a lorry, on the A695 Blaydon Highway, Gateshead.
A section of the A695 was closed for about five hours following the accident, shortly before 4.30pm on Friday (October 10).
Police inquiries are continuing and Northumbria motor patrols officers are appealing for assistance from anyone in the area at the time.
They are particularly keen to speak to anyone who might have seen a dark coloured motorcycle in the vicinity prior to the incident.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, extension 69191, quoting reference number 879 10/10/14.
