NOMINATIONS have opened for names to be added to Tyneside’s Walk of Fame.

The trail of plaques, on the Quayside, was opened by Lady Elsie Robson, widow of Sir Bobby, last year.

Twenty local heroes were included, from Ant and Dec and Alan Shearer to Professor Peter Higgs.

Now members of the public can suggest who should be added.

Linda Green, Gateshead Council’s cabinet member for communities and volunteering, said: “Last year’s winners of NewcastleGateshead Local Heroes are now celebrated and immortalised with a bronze plaque placed around our famous Quayside.

“We need you to tell us who else should be there. Get nominating and make sure your local hero is recognised.”

Nominations are open until Tuesday, September 30. For more information, visit newcastlegateshead.com/localheroes
