A MAN has died following a crash in Gateshead.
The incident happened at 2.21pm yesterday (Monday, April 14), when a Peugeot 308 left the road and collided with a hedgerow, causing it to roll onto its roof.
"The incident took place eastbound on the A692 Lobley Hill Road, near the junction with Schoolhouse Lane at Marley Hill," a spokesman for Northumbria Police said.
"The driver of the car, a man aged 49, was subsequently pronounced dead.
"The front seat passenger, a 53-year-old woman, was taken by air ambulance to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary where she is receiving treatment for injuries which are not believed to be life threatening."
The driver is understood to be from the Stanley area of County Durham.
The road was closed for four hours to allow for investigation and vehicle recovery.
