POLICE are appealing for information following a fatal collision in Gateshead.

At just after 4am this morning, officers received a report that a double decker bus had collided with a cyclist in Shipcote Lane.

Officers and paramedics attended and the cyclist, a man in his 30s, was taken to the RVI hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A section of the A167 Durham Road was closed between the Shipcote Lane and the five bridges roundabout while enquiries were carried out and diversions put in place.

The road reopened at just before 9am.

Anyone who was in the area and who witnessed the collision is asked to contact police with information on 101 ext 69191.
