A VILLAGE community fun day with a youth football tournament is being held next month.

Craghead Football Club is organising the event, on the Millennium Green, on Saturday, June 23, from 10am to 2pm.

There will be family fun activities, a bouncy castle and ten under-11s teams from across the region taking part in a football contest.

The aim is to boost club funds.

Secretary Wayne Barrass said: “The idea is to get the community involved and if we get the weather we had last year for the first one it will be a cracking day.”

The youth teams play in the Gateshead Apollo Doors league with a new under eights’ side starting in September.

The club now has three youth teams, under eights, under tens and under 11s, with training held on Tuesdays from 5.30pm to 6.30pm.

New players are always welcome. First session is free, then £4.

Mr Barrass said: “We started the youth football teams in 2012 and they have grown and grown.

“They are not just local kids and some come over from Rowlands Gill so we must be doing something right.

“It is nice to give the kids something to do in the village.”
