FREE support to help people with Parkinson’s Disease find an exercise to suit them is being showcased at a special one-day event.

The Louisa Centre in Stanley is hosting the event on Wednesday, March 7, to offer people of all ages and stages of the condition an opportunity to try out different types of exercise that can help ease symptoms.

Research by Parkinson’s UK shows that just two-and-a-half hours of exercise a week can help slow progression of symptoms as well as having a positive impact on wellbeing and mental health.

Kirsty McDowell, the charity’s area development manager, said: “Exercise is beneficial for everyone, but for people with Parkinson’s it’s as important as their medication to help take control and manage their symptoms.

“This one-day exercise event is designed to help people with Parkinson’s get moving by finding the right exercise that suits them. Anyone affected by Parkinson’s, including family members and carers,is very welcome to come along and try out different types of exercise for free in a safe and supportive environment.

“Booking is essential, but the event is free of charge and there will be free refreshments throughout, along with a range of information on offer about Parkinson’s and other related subjects.”

It runs from 1pm to 3pm.
