A TEENAGER has been named the best apprentice plumber in the region.
Stuart Brown, from Stanley, has been awarded the Wilkinson Shield by the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering.
The 18-year-old works for social landlord Karbon Homes and studies one day a week at New College Durham.
He said: “I was so surprised when I heard I had won the Wilkinson Shield.
“My college tutor, Simon Place, put me forward for it and I have had fantastic support from the college.
“”I feel privileged to have received such an impressive award and it will look great on my CV.”
As well as the trophy, which dates back to 1913, Stuart also wins £200, a £50 voucher and various plumbing tools.
Harry Teasdale, from New College said: “This award is an excellent achievement”.
