AN innovative project aimed at bringing a town’s generations closer together is celebrating another successful course.

North Durham Academy students and older tenants in South Stanley have been building friendships and understanding by cooking together as part of the third Ageless Project.

The scheme aims to break down barriers between young and older people and is delivered by the Continuum CIC social enterprise, in partnership with Derwentside Homes.

Participants in this third course took part in a “ready steady cook” session where the older tenants showed the youngsters how to cook a tasty meal from limited resources.

Derwentside Homes tenant Carl Gippert said; “I love to cook and it was great sharing my experience with the youngsters. “Their enthusiasm was infectious and the sessions really helped me keep feeling young.”

Student Hannah Peadon, 16, said; “I was naturally nervous at first but I found the course really enjoyable. I think I understand older people better now and I hope they understand young people a bit better too.”

The project is funded by the Stanley Area Action Partnership and more schemes are planned. For more information about The Ageless Project, including future projects, please contact Jeanette Harold on 07872 058175.
