A COMMUNITY theatre group is preparing for a festive pantomime.

Shoestring Theatre Company is performing Treasure Island the Panto, at The Venue on Wear Road in Stanley.

The show follows the adventures of Jim, played by Holly Walton Davidson, who falls into the trap of Captain Long John Silver, played by Callum Cameron who kidnaps him in search of the chart which shows where the treasure is buried.

Fancy dress is encouraged among the audience.

Bill Wilkinson, chairman of Stanley Community Association, which runs The Venue, who is also part of the theatre company, said: “There will be a prize awarded for the best dressed pirate in the audience at each show, parrots are optional. There are plenty of crazy capers as we set sail for the open seas.”

The panto will run from Thursday to Saturday December 8 to10 at 7.30pm with a matinee on Saturday at 2pm.

Admission is £5 for adults, £4 for children under 14 years and those with concessions.
