A TEENAGER has walked into a new career after a landlord took her on as its first apprentice.

When 17-year-old Kyra Bailey, from Stanley, lost her first job, she pounded the streets of her hometown handing out her CV to local businesses.

One of them was social housing provider Prince Bishops Homes, which has now taken her on as the company’s first apprentice.

She said: “I had left college and was on a six months lettings apprenticeship with an agency.

“However, following a management review at the end of my apprenticeship, I was told that there were no available funds to create a position for me.

“It was then that I decided to get out there, to look for new opportunities myself.”

When she dropped her CV off with Prince Bishops Homes, the company told her about its new apprenticeship scheme.

She said: “After applying formally, I was accepted for the role and I haven’t looked back”.

She has now started an 18-month apprenticeship in business administration and hopes for a career in the industry once her training comes to an end.
