A WOMAN from the North-East has celebrated a milestone birthday with family and friends

Frances Murphy turned 100 today (Tuesday, March 22) and was given a reception ‘fit for a Queen’ at a party at Westerleigh Residential Home in Stanley, County Durham.

She was joined by her son, Huey, and daughter-in-law, Pam, friends and fellow residents at the event, which included live entertainment.

She was presented with her official card from the Queen, acknowledging the special occasion, and was treated to flowers, gifts and a cake.

Mrs Murphy has two grandchildren, Marie and Angela, and two great grandchildren, Adam and Marcus.

She has lived in nearby Craghead all her life and only recently moved into the care home after previously visiting the home for respite care.

During her younger days Mrs Murphy worked as a secretary.

Paula Stobart, the care home manager, said: “Frances is a lovely lady and she was given a fitting celebration in recognition of this magnificent achievement. “She is still a very active person at the home, despite being registered blind, and is very popular amongst our staff and residents.

“Everyone at the home was delighted when Frances joined us permanently after meeting her during her time on respite care.

“We always celebrate our residents’ significant milestones and it was nice to see everyone join in the festivities for Frances’ 100th to mark the special occasion. I would like to wish Frances all the very best.”
