A YOUNG girl has raised around £600 for charity by having 17-and-a-half inches cut from her hair.

Eight-year-old Phoebe Stephenson’s long locks were trimmed to a neat bob and have been donated to make wigs for children undergoing treatment for cancer.

Phoebe’s hair has gone to The Little Princess Trust and she is also raising money for Sands, the still birth charity, in memory of her little brother Charlie, who was still born in 2008.

She had her hair cut off by hairdresser Natalie Wight in front of fellow pupils at Shield Row Primary School, in Stanley, on Monday.

It is the second time the youngster has donated her hair to the charity.

Two years ago when she was six she had 12 inches cut off to help others.

Her mother Kelly Stephenson said: “It has all come from her. She saw something about the Little Princess Trust and decided that she wanted to do it.

“She knows about what happened to her brother Charlie and how we lost him because she goes up to the cemetery regularly. She knows all about what Sands do so she decided she wanted to raise money for them. We are really proud of her.”
