BEER lovers are invited to a weekend of rhythm and brews.

Best Western Beamish Hall Hotel, near the famous museum in Stanley, County Durham, will hold its fourth winter festival on Friday and Saturday, January 23 and Saturday 24.

More than 90 real ales, ciders and perries will be on offer and music from North-East bands including The Happy Cats, featuring former Lindisfarne member Marty Craggs, and County Durham rhythm and blues and rock and roll outfit The Revoluntionaires.

The event is being held with CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) and includes an ale tasting challenge in which drinkers will be asked to distinguish cask ale from keg.

The venue’s general manager, Chris Comerford, said: “Our expert brewers who oversee the process at our own microbrewery will be on hand throughout this special event to help guests decide which types of ale are best and put their taste buds to the test.

“It’s fantastic that we’re able to exhibit so many unique ales at this year’s event, and we’re delighted to have so many fantastic local bands on board to keep visitors entertained throughout the weekend.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming ale fanatics, cider fans and Beamish locals alike to enjoy the festivities at our fourth annual winter ale event.”

The festival runs from 6pm to midnight on the Friday and between 3pm and midnight the following day.

Tickets cost £5 and are available from the venue or from www.ticketmaster.co.uk
