A MAN has appeared in court accused of stabbing a man in an roadside incident.

Timothy Affleck, 34, of Bloom Avenue, Stanley, County Durham, appeared at Newcastle Crown Court via a video link earlier today (Wednesday, October 1), charged with wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon.

The alleged incident took place on Northumberland Lane, near Washington, on Tuesday September 16.

The alleged victim was treated for an injury to his hand at Sunderland Royal Hospital.

Emma Dowling said: “It is alleged the defendant has got out of his car in a road rage incident and stabbed the complainant."

Ms Dowling said Affleck had yet to be charged with an offence of dangerous driving.

The case was adjourned for a plea and directions hearing on December 17, while a provisional trial date has been set for February 23.

Affleck has been remanded in custody, with a bail hearing set for tomorrow (Thursday).
