A SUPERMARKET worker from north Durham is taking part in the Great North Run in memory of her father.

Kirsty Lawrence, from Stanley, is hoping to complete the half marathon in September and is raising money for the British Lung Foundation.

Her father, Geoffrey Lawrence, died after suffering from lung problems, aged 63, in 2010.

Miss Lawrence, 25, who works at Tesco in Consett, is also holding sponsored bag packing session at her store in June 29 from 10am-2pm.

She is now asking people to support her in her aim of raising £500 by sparing an hour to help.

Ms Lawrence said: “I’m really keen to raise as much money as possible for the British Lung Foundation and would really welcome support from local people.

“I am also taking part in this year’s Great North Run in memory of my late dad.

“He unfortunately suffered undiagnosed lung problem that could have been treated if it had been discovered.”

Louise Skinner, events manager at the British Lung Foundation said: “We are delighted that Kirsty Lawrence will be taking part in the Great North Run to support the British Lung Foundation.

“Every contribution makes a difference and funds raised will go towards ensuring that we can continue to offer vital support for people with lung disease, as well as their partners, families and friends.”
