BRADLEY Lowery is continuing to capture the nation’s hearts months after losing his battle against cancer.
The six-year-old Sunderland superfan maintained a positive disposition during his long battle with the neuroblastoma form of the illness until his death, in July.
His bond with the club’s former striker Jermain Defoe, as mascot at both Sunderland and England games, brought him to worldwide attention.
It has helped earn the brave youngster, from Blackhall, County Durham, a posthumous nomination for the Best Sporting Moment of the Year, in the 2018 Laureus World Sports Awards.
Each month from August to December the public is being invited to select their favourite moment from a shortlist of six videos chosen by a panel of sporting legends.
The five monthly winners will then be subject to a final public vote, with the winner to be announced at the 2018 Laureus Awards ceremony.
Bradley Lowery was the popular selection for October, following motor racing driver Kimi Raikkonen with a six-year-old fan and amputee racing driver Billy Monger getting back behind the wheel, in the first two months of the contest.
- Voting is now underway for the six contenders for the November nominee, which can be viewed by visiting the myLaureus.com site.
