PUB and restaurant staff stepped out three-legged style to help raise funds to provide much-needed kit for volunteer lifeboat crew members.

Seaton Lane Inn colleagues Debbie Brown, Keeley Mathewson, Joanne Curtis, plus chef Jennifer Malkin donned their wellington boots to tackle a three-mile, three-legged welly walk from the Seaton Village premises to the marina at Seaham, on the County Durham coast.

The final destination was, fittingly, the George Elmy Lifeboat, at East Durham Heritage and Lifeboat Centre, within the marina.

Ms Brown conceded it was, “surprisingly hard work”, as the last time any of the quartet walked three-legged fashion was when they were at school.

But their efforts were worthwhile as their foot slogging challenge has helped to raise more than £300 which will be donated to the RNLI to provide new kit for volunteer crew men and women.

“We had a laugh and it was amazing to know we’ve raised so much money for the RNLI and the fantastic work it does to save lives at sea. We felt it important to do our bit for such a relevant charity.”
