A NEW evening club is being launched for socially isolated people in an east Durham community.

The Hospital of God at Greatham, near Hartlepool, has unveiled details for the Thursday Evening Club at Minerva House, Horden, from 4pm to 8pm. It will start with a free launch party on April 20.

The new venture will offer a variety of activities and will work with socially isolated people of any age.

Run on a weekly basis sessions will be £3 each and including light refreshments.

The range of activities will be decided upon by group members, who can also help plan activities if they wish to build skills.

Initial suggestions have included arts and crafts, a singing group, cooking, quiz night and trips out.

Rose Maddick, service development nanager for the Hospital of God, said: “As a charity, we have recognised the negative impact that being socially isolated can have on people’s well-being.

“We have and have set up this group as a way to try something new and involve the wider community in our work.

“We have a long tradition of working to helping communities throughout the region and working to make sure people live well and enjoy life to the full.

“We are proud to be building on our existing work, whilst offering something new for Horden.”
