GIFT vouchers worth almost £3,000 have been presented to a housing association’s oldest residents.
Every year, Durham Aged Mineworkers’ Homes Association (DAMHA) presents each resident who is aged 90 and over on Christmas Day with Marks and Spencer gift vouchers
The vouchers are provided by the Almshouse Association.
As the largest Almshouse charity in England, DAMHA last year presented 118 vouchers to its residents living across the North-East.
The Almshouse Association gives £15 and DAMHA adds £10, so in total £2,950 was handed out to nonagenarians just in time for Christmas.
Receiving her first voucher this year was Muriel Crawford, of Easington, who recently turned 90.
She said: “It’s very generous of DAMHA and the Almshouse Association to provide the vouchers, which I am looking forward to spending.”
Paul Mullis, Chief Executive of DAMHA, said: “It’s always a pleasure to be able to give the vouchers to some of our oldest residents at Christmas time.”
