TWO people were taken to hospital after a collision involving a van and a car at a bus stop.

A black Volkswagen Polo struck the bus shelter following the collision with a red Ford Transit van on Stockton Road, Cold Hesledon, between Seaham and Murton, County Durham, at 12.30pm on Friday.

Two fire crews from Peterlee station joined local police in attending the incident amid reports that one of the casualties may have been trapped in their vehicle.

But on arrival both, a man and a woman, had managed to be brought free from their respective vehicles, and police said they were transported to hospital by ambulance.

A stretch of Stockton Road, between Richardson’s Garden Centre and the Pemberton Arms was closed in the wake of the accident.
