A WORLD famous boxing champion has donated £25,000 to a North East hospice.
Former world champion John Conteh donated the money to St Cuthbert’s Hospice in Durham City, which cared for his nephew, Lee Conteh.
The businessman from Easington Lane, County Durham, was 46 when he died from a brain tumour in August 2012.
The John Conteh Foundation, which raises money by holding a classic golf series ending in Orlando, Florida, added the money to thousands already raised by Lee’s family.
John said: “The care hospices like St Cuthbert’s offer is fantastic. It means so much to families like ours to know their loved ones are getting looked after. I am proud my foundation is able to help.”
The Conteh family hold an annual charity golf competition in memory of Lee, which took place last month at Sharpley Springs Golf Course in Seaham.
