A MAN has pleaded not guilty to a charge of attempted murder arising from a stabbing incident in an early hours pub disturbance.

Steven Robinson, 40, is alleged to have stabbed a 33-year-old man several times during the incident at The Oaklands, in Durham Way, Peterlee, on July 26.

Emergency services found the victim bleeding heavily from the wounds and he was taken for treatment to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, where he was subsequently described as in a, “serious, but stable condition”.

Robinson, of Elliott Road, Peterlee, was arrested at the scene and interviewed before being charged with attempted murder.

He appeared at a brief plea and case management hearing before Recorder of Newcastle, Judge Paul Sloan, this morning (Monday, October 19).

A trial date was agreed, to start at the court on January 25, with an estimated five-day listing.

Judge Sloan adjourned the case and remanded Robinson to remain in custody.
