THE OWNER of a pet shop has been left distraught after a pygmy hedgehog was stolen.

The hedgehog, a distinctive white pygmy, was stolen from its cage in Lee’s Pet and Aquatic on Yoden Road, Peterlee, on the afternoon of Tuesday May 5.

The father of the owner, Mick Armstrong said: “We are annoyed that someone could come into the shop and steal from us.

“The hedgehog was in a cage with another one the same and since it was taken the other hedgehog has gone crazy - they were due to be sold as a pair.”

Anyone with information about the theft or who knows of the whereabouts of the hedgehog should contact Durham Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
