WEDDING photographs of a mystery couple have been found dumped at the side of a road.

Two albums showing wedding photographs from different decades were found on the roadside in County Durham.

Now Durham County Council hopes to trace the couple to reunite them with the missing snapshots.

Last month, the council was called out to deal with an unusual fly-tipping incident on the country road between Coldford Lane and Haswell Plough, near Peterlee.

Household goods had been strewn along a three-quarter of a mile stretch of the road at some point between the evening of October 14 and early on the morning of October 15.

An emergency council team was sent out to remove the piles of rubbish, some of which were encroaching on the carriageway.

A council spokesman said it looked as if the piles of litter may have come from a house or garage clearance and included toys, DVDs, shoes and even an old box camera.

But among the items were two photographic albums, which appeared to show a couple’s wedding and possibly a later renewal of vows ceremony.

While there is no suggestion the couple were directly involved in the fly-tipping incident, the council are anxious to contact them to return the photographs.

Ian Hoult, neighbourhoods protection manager with Durham County Council, said: “This is a significant episode of fly-tipping which saw piles of household goods, including videos and toys, dumped over a distance of road about three-quarters of a mile.

“Among the piles of items were two wedding albums that I am sure someone somewhere would like to be reunited with”.
