A DOG from east Durham has been named Britain’s most energetic pet.

Sky, a seven-year-old border collie, from Seaham, has won the accolade following a vote by Facebook fans in a Butcher's Pet Care competition - and has won £50 worth of vouchers.

Later this summer Sky will go head-to-head with the finalists of seven other categories to be named the Butcher’s Pet Personality of the Year, with the chance to win £500.

Owner, Gordon MacPherson, said: “Sky is such a lovely companion and so it’s fantastic that he has been voted the nation’s most energetic pet.

“We entered him due to his fun loving nature so it’s great that his personality has come across.”

Butcher’s launched the competition on its Facebook page as part of its sponsorship of the hit TV show, You’ve Been Framed.

Pet owners have been invited to enter a photograph or video of their animal in categories which include most energetic or happiest pet through to the naughtiest, friendliest and most adventurous. Members of the public vote for their favourite.

Sarah Alexander, Butcher’s head of marketing development, said: “At Butcher’s we want to celebrate the incredible personalities of our pets.

“All the entries have been fantastic but Sky’s just pipped them to the post.

“A well-deserved winner which highlights the joy the nation’s pets bring their owners every day.”

There is still to enter the remaining categories in the competition, which closes on August 20.
