A CLUB is flying the flag for the World Cup by decking its premises with the colours of all 32 competing nations.

Horden Labour Club in Sunderland Road, Horden, near Peterlee, was been covered by the flags, after landlady Mary Pratt remarked to regulars she would like to fly a few to celebrate the festival of football in Brazil.

Her partner Gareth Lincoln said: “One of our regulars Dave Rouse, who owns Rouse Upholsterers got all the flags and stitched them together.

“We arrived at the club to see them all hanging up. We never expected it. It came as a complete surprise.

“He has done a great job.”

The club hopes to attract extra patrons to view the 64 matches live on its terrestrial channels over the next month.

Interest is expected to be particularly high when England play their matches, starting on Saturday.

Pubs and clubs across the country have been allowed open late for an extra two hours as Roy Hodgson’s team tackle Italy in their opening Group D match.
