THE economic divide that is crippling this country does not need much to expose it, it only needs a walk from, let’s say, New Elvet to the Bus Station in Durham City.
The divide is a tragedy, nationally and locally. I suggest that if the University want to start to communicate with the citizens of Durham they put some of their wealth into helping to solve the problem of the disgraceful bus station that we from the villages have to use.
The vice chancellor could start by walking down to take a look, and even take a bus ride.
They will need to know that the buses can’t always stop at the designated place, so they must keep a sharp look out for the bus number, and talk to others waiting, because the more eyes on the look-out the better chance they will have of finding a bus; an example of working together for mutual benefit.
