A COMMUNITY police officer has had her hair chopped off in support of Dementia Action Week.

Durham PCSO Leesa Bennison had her long hair cut off, raising £300 for the Alzheimer’s Society and donating her pony tail to The Little Princess Trust, which specialises in making wigs for children with cancer.

She said: “I have had long hair for ever and as part of raising awareness for this terrible disease Toni & Guy, Durham city, are cutting my hair off for free on the condition that I raise as much money for this charity as possible.”

Wendy Buttleman, from Toni & Guy, at Prince Bishops Shopping Centre, donated the hair cut.

Manager Richard Toynbee said: “Prince Bishops Shopping Centre love to be involved in events such as this.”

“We work hard to continually raise awareness for North East based charities and we aim to work with as many charitable causes in Durham as possible to help.”
