FOOTBALL fans gathered to get a glimpse of the women’s FA Cup ahead of Durham Women’s FA cup quarter-final match on Sunday.

Durham will host the FA Women’s Super League One side Everton Ladies in the last eight of the competition at New Ferens Park, Belmont Industrial Estate, in what will be a historic afternoon for the club.

At Maiden Law Sports Centre, Durham, fans were able to have their photograph taken with the famous piece of silverware and talk to Durham squad members.

Annabel Johnson, 24, who plays in defence, said: “I’m feeling confident. I can’t wait to get out there and play, it’s a big opportunity for us. Who doesn’t wanna play in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup?”

Rebecca Salicki, 25, who also plays in defence, said: “It is amazing and this is the furthest we have come in the competition. We are feeling very positive about the game, although we are the underdogs and everyone is expecting Everton to beat us, but we are fighters in this club and we will give them a good game.”

Keen supporter Harry Tidbury, 68, from Pity Me, will be cheering the team on. He said: “I love it and go every Sunday when they are at home. It’s the girls, the manager and atmosphere.”

The Wildcats secured their place in the quarter-finals with a hard-fought 5-2 win against Leicester City Ladies in the fifth round. Kick-off on Sunday is at 2pm.
