THE first tenants have moved into a flagship office building designed to help small companies grow.

Family-run business Concision has moved into the £3.4m Salvus House business incubator offices at Aykley Heads, in Durham.

The writing and editing company was formed just 18 months ago by Daniel Roe, with wife Sarah Prins and his father Brian Roe, working from the family home in Shincliffe.

Now employing eight people, the company has moved into a suite at Salvus House, the award-winning office building run by economic development company Business Durham.

Concision works with science and technology companies and marketing agencies around the world, turning technical or jargon-filled reports into plain English so it can be easily understood.

Daniel Roe said the new office space was part of the company’s plans for growth.

He said: “The people who work for us are all writers first and foremost, and expanding our team is an important part of delivering value to our clients.

“We’re glad to be based at Salvus House. It gives our team more space to collaborate.

“In addition, we’re looking to take on another member of staff in the summer and Salvus House gives us the room we need to continue to grow.”

Durham County Council leader, Cllr Simon Henig, said: “Salvus House is just one example of the supportive and innovative approach that we take towards businesses looking to expand or relocate to the county and we are delighted to see Concision moving into this great facility at the heart of Durham City”.

He added: “We wish them all the best with their expansion plans.”

Established companies can rent parts of the 32,000 square feet of office space at Salvus House, but there is also incubation space, which can be rented by companies that are just getting started.

In the longer term, it is hoped that the new companies will expand into offices on the Aykley Heads site.
