A MIXTURE of festive music will be performed when Durham Choral Society stages its annual annual charity concert.

The choir will sing along with the Durham County Youth Choir, appear at Elvet Methodist Church, Durham, at 7.30pm on Saturday Saturday, December 17.

Among the works to be performed is Britten's A Ceremony of Carols. It was originally scored for three-part treble, solos and harp and then arranged for four voice parts, which opened it up to choirs with the traditional soprano, alto, tenor, bass mix.

As ever, there will be a chance for audience participation and some popular carols performed by the choirs.

Proceeds from the concert will be donated to two charities.

The society usually supports the Elvet Methodist Church Project and a local charity which is being chosen by members of the choir.

The Durham Choral Society has existed in various forms, born out of association with Durham Cathedral, since 1946.

It has grown to about 150 members, and performed some of the leading choral works of history and of the present day.

Durham County Youth Choir comprises singers aged from 14 to 19 years old.
