A BUILDERS’ merchant is inviting would-be rugby players to to try their hand at scoring a try into a cement mixer.

For each rugby ball successfully thrown into the mixer, Travis Perkins will make a £1 donation to Durham City RUFC.

The winner will getting the title of Durham’s Ultimate Cement Mixer Champion and £200 worth of Tesco vouchers.

All the money raised will go towards buying a new defibrillator for the club house.

Travis Perkins Durham branch manager Ian Duncan said: “Travis Perkins is a long time supporter of rugby having sponsored the Northampton Saints since 2001, so we really wanted the chance to help support local grassroots teams too.”

He added: “It looks set to be a really fun event and we hope everyone gets involved on the day so we can raise as much money as possible to help Durham City.”

The challenge be at Travis Perkins Durham, Dragon Lane, Gilesgate Moor, from 9.30am to 4pm on Wednesday.
