POLICE closed the A167 near Durham in both directions on Wednesday morning following an accident involving an overturned car.
Two women were taken to hospital following the crash after crews from County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service (CDDFRS) were called to the scene.
The A167 Darlington Road was closed between Lowe's Barn Bank and Potters Bank and A690 Neville's Cross Bank before the two women were taken to University Hospital of North Durham.
Commuters reported major delays as emergency services dealt with the incident. Donna Trimble who was on the X21 bus to Framwellgate Moor said she was delayed for 45 minutes.
The accident has now been cleared and traffic is beginning to ease.
