A MAN who died following a crash on the A19 on Wednesday has been named.
Jason Hunt, 49, of Acklam Road, Thornaby, died after a collision between his blue Ford Ranger and a HGV happened at 12.50pm on the northbound carriageway near Dalton Park, just before the slip road to the A1018.
Immediate CPR was carried out on Mr Hunt by passers-by, before he was taken by air ambulance to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle where sadly, he later died.
A statement from Durham Constabulary said: "The Ranger was travelling in the inside lane when for some reason it appears to have veered across the carriageway and collided with the central reservation.
"It then crossed back into lane one and collided with the rear of the truck.
"The driver of the Ford Ranger was taken by air ambulance to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle where sadly he later died.
"It’s thought he may have been taken ill at the wheel but a post mortem examination will be carried out to determine a formal cause of death."
Any witnesses are asked to contact the collision investigation unit on 0191 375 2159.
