A NEW play area has been officially opened after members of the community came together to improve their village.

Holliday Park in Langley Moor now has a range of new play equipment, including a zip wire, slide and tyre swing, as well as new park and picnic benches.

An event to officially open the play area was held recently, and was attended by pupils from Langley Moor Primary School, St Patrick's RC Primary School and Langley Moor Nursery School.

Parish and Durham County councillors, an Area Action Partnership officer and employees of Durham County Council were also present at the opening, which was organised by the Friends of Langley Moor, a residents' group formed in 2012 to improve the local community.

Group chairman Danny Bone thanked all those involved in making the vision for the new play area a reality and said the official opening was a big success.

"The children really enjoyed using all the various items of equipment in glorious sunshine before returning to school," he added.
