A RECENTLY retired Dean has been appointed to an honorary role at his old cathedral.
The Very Reverend Michael Sadgrove, who retired as Dean of Durham in September after 12 years in the role, has been appointed Dean Emeritus of Durham.
The announcement was made by the Right Reverend Paul Butler, the Bishop of Durham.
Mr Sadgrove, who now lives in Northumberland, said on Facebook: “(I am) grateful to retain (a) link with a place and its community I’ve come to love deeply.”
Bishop Butler added: “I am delighted that Michael has accepted the offer to be Dean Emeritus.
“It is well deserved, following his 12-year ministry at Durham Cathedral.”
The new Dean of Durham is the Venerable Andrew Tremlett, the Canon of Westminster. He will be installed at the Cathedral this summer.
