The art work, which encased the city’s famous Market Place statue of Lord Londonderry in a neon snow globe, was the big hit at the 2011 Lumiere festival.
It won 30 per cent of the public vote, narrowly ahead of Crown of Light, the cathedral projection which starred for three successive festivals, on 28 per cent.
Elephantastic, a giant 3D projection of an elephant on Elvet Bridge, was third with 23 per cent.
*The Whale installation at Lumiere has been cancelled tonight due to high river levels.
A statement from organisers Artichoke said: "As of 11.30am, Lumiere producer Artichoke regrets that due to adverse weather conditions and rising water levels in the River Wear, it has been necessary to cancel Mysticete (the whale) by Catherine Garret at this evening’s Lumiere festival.
"Artichoke is reviewing the situation on an ongoing basis and there will be further updates during the course of the day. Other installations may be affected.
"Please prepare for your journey tonight before you leave."
