THREE people are in hospital with stab wounds after a violent disturbance at a house in a North-East village.

Details have only just emerged of how the peace and quiet of Bowburn, in County Durham, was dramatically interrupted by a disturbance at a house on Monday evening (October 5).

A concerned member of the public raised the alarm with the emergency services at 6.17pm and Durham Police and the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) rushed to the scene.

The incident, which involved only the three people hurt and was contained within one house, was dealt with within in about 90 minutes.

Two women and one man were injured and taken to hospital.

A 29-year-old woman was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.

Meanwhile, a 30-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man were taken to the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.

All had suffered multiple stab wounds.

Four days on, all three remain in hospital. However, their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

A police investigation has begun and enquiries are ongoing. No arrests have yet been made, although a spokeswoman said officers were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Police remained at the house for several hours after the disturbance and a cordon was in place until well into Tuesday (October 6).

A Durham Police spokeswoman stressed the three people injured were known to each other and sought to reassure the public there was no general threat, either at the time or since.

In a statement issued today (Friday, October 9), she said: “These people were known to each other and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident. It was an isolated incident and there was no risk to the wider public.”

The NEAS deployed a rapid response vehicle, a Hazard Area Response Team and three ambulances, which took the three injured people to hospital separately.

Anyone with information on the incident can call Durham Police on the non-emergency number, 101, or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555-111.
