FOUR of the country’s most senior churchmen will attend a service celebrating Christian unity.

The service at Durham Cathedral on Sunday will be attended by two Catholic and two Church of England bishops, inspired by the recent meeting between the Archbishop of Canterbury and Pope Francis.

Anglican Archbishop of York, the Most Revd Dr John Sentamu and Bishop of Durham, the Rt Revd Paul Butler, will be joined by Catholic Archbishop of Liverpool, the Most Revd Malcolm McMahon and Bishop of Hexham and Newcastle, Rt Revd Séamus Cunningham for the 3.30pm Living The Joy of the Gospel service.

Archbishop McMahon said: “It is a powerful witness that Catholics, Anglicans and other Christians are gathering together in Durham Cathedral to dedicate themselves to the Church’s mission”.

Churches and Christian groups of all denominations from across the whole of the North East have been invited to send members along and members of the public are invited to attend.
