SIGHTS and sounds of yesteryear were brought back to life in the North-East over the weekend.
The Market Place in Durham City had a 1940s feel with music from the era and military vehicles on display in Millennium Place.
The Nostalgia Weekend was held on Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday with living history presented by Yesterday’s Heroes, songs by crooner Jay B and music from Echo 42 Big Band.
Alongside the entertainment, a two day market gave shoppers the chance to pick up a wide range of goods on sale such as food, clothes, gifts, and home wares.
Cllr John Robinson, Mayor of Durham, toured the market and enjoyed the entertainment on Bank Holiday Monday at midday, his final official engagement as the city’s mayor.
Colin Wilkes, managing director of Durham Markets, said: “Durham’s Nostalgia Weekend is always one to pull in the crowds, with many dancing along to the 1940s style music.
“With vintage military vehicles, costumed performers, live music and an extensive market, there really is something for everyone and loads of reasons to visit Durham.
“It was a pleasure to welcome Cllr John Robinson on his last official engagement too. We have enjoyed showing John and his wife around a number of different markets during his year as mayor.”
The two day market is the second special market run by Durham Markets as part of its Love Your Local Market campaign.
