A COMMUNITY choir will perform a piece inspired by tragedy at Durham Cathedral next month (Saturday, May 9).
Durham Choral Society and Orchestra will present Dvorak’s Stabat Mater on Saturday, May 9.
Dvorak composed the piece following the death of his daughter Josefa and completed it after two of his other children died within a short time of each other.
His first piece of a religious nature, it was premiered in Prague in 1880.
The concert will feature soloists Celena Bridge, Martha McLorinan, Hugo Hymas and Alistair Ollerenshaw. The conductor is Michael Summers and the leader is Julia Boulton.
The concert begins at 7.30pm. Doors open at 7pm.
